sled
Copyright Minnesota Historical Society Collections
- Description:
Type of sled used by hunters to haul their game through the woods. Sled made of bent branches, possibly hickory, which form the runners and horizontal and vertical supports. The branches are lashed together with sinew. A crosspiece at the front has center hole, probably for attaching a pulling rope. The runners are made of split branches. Reportedly the sled was found in the D. H. Robbins house, near Lake Mille Lacs, Minn., when it was purchased by Harry and Jeannette Ayer, ca. 1914. Earlier cataloging called it a dog sled, but no documentation exists to support this.
