There is no simple independent word for father-in-law. A personal prefix goes with the dependent noun stem /=zhinis-/ father-in-law to make a full word:
  • nizhinis my father-in-law (1s-3s)
  • gizhinis your father-in-law (2s-3s)
  • ozhinisan h/ father-in-law
    • [MN] ozhinisan h/ father-in-law/fathers-in-law (3s-3')
    • [BL] ozhinisan h/ father-in-law (3s-3's)
    • [BL] ozhinisa’ h/ fathers-in-law (3s-3'p)

Individual speakers and speakers from different regions use different words when speaking. Each audio recording is marked with the initials of the Ojibwe speaker.
