How to use the Ojibwe People's Dictionary

Note:
A sibling's son is called nephew in English but in Anishinaabemowin there are two different terms depending on the relative gender of the siblings. If their gender is the same, then the son is a parallel nephew, a male's brother's son or a female's sister's son. The same term means stepson. There is no simple independent word for this relative. A personal prefix goes with the dependent noun stem /=doozhim-/ nephew (parallel nephew) to make a full word:
  • nindoozhim, indoozhim, ndoozhim my nephew (parallel nephew) (1s-3s)
  • gidoozhim your nephew (parallel nephew) (2s-3s)
  • odoozhiman h/ nephew (parallel nephew)
    • [MN] odoozhiman h/ nephew (parallel nephew) / nephews (parallel nephews) (3s-3')
    • [BL] odoozhiman h/ nephew (parallel nephew) (3s-3's)
    • [BL] odoozhima’ h/ nephews (parallel nephews) (3s-3'p)
The same words are used for someone's stepson.
