  • The basic word for "rain" is a verb gimiwan
  • Verbs describing different ways of raining usually have a final element /-biisaa/ (Border Lakes and further north /-biisaan/) combined with an initial element describing the nature or direction of the rain. Some examples are: maajibiisaa or maajibisaan "it starts to rain" and animibiisaa or animibiisaan "rain goes away". 
  • Verbs describing the sounds of rain have an element /-wewe-/ between the initial and the final /-biisaa/ or /-biisaan/. An example is biidwewebiisaa or biidwewebiisaan "rain is heard coming". These are shown below under the heading RAIN IS HEARD.
  • All rain verbs are of the VII type and occur without subjects.
